Dog Training and Kennels at Broadlands

At Broadlands Kennels, we specialise in professional dog training for security, safety, and performance. We develop highly skilled working dogs that are reliable, obedient, and capable in real-world situations.
We work with:

  • Farmers and rural families who need security dogs for protection
  • Individuals and families who prioritise personal safety
  • Security companies requiring trained working dogs for operational use
  • Dog owners who want structured, advanced dog training beyond basic obedience

In a country where safety is a daily concern, an untrained dog is not enough.
We solve this by transforming dogs into disciplined, focused, and dependable partners trained for protection, detection, and control.

Dog Training for Security, Protection and Working Dogs, Mpumalanga, Highveld.

Train a reliable protection dog in 4–12 weeks — or stop living with an untrained liability. We do board and train programs. We are 90 minutes from Johannesburg, OT Tambo airport. We have 270ha of training ground, enough for a track and search.
You are in South Africa. Safety is not optional. It is a necessity. We always validate why products are too expensive, the issues is you do not really understand the value, till it is too late.

The question is not what K9 train cost …the question is what it will cost if you DON’T …

What we offer

Our training programs are designed to build confident, capable dogs through structured, hands-on development.
We offer basic programs for households, more advanced and specialised training and certification on request.
Before we embark on any training, we assess the dogs to ensure they have the right temperament and drive for the job we are training them for.

Staying at Broadlands is not a getaway — it’s an experience of real farm life. Walk the land, explore open fields, and cool off in the dam after a long day outdoors. This is where you disconnect from the noise and reconnect with nature on its own terms.

Birdlife is everywhere, with over 52 species to spot if you’re willing to slow down and look. Wildlife moves around you, not for show — but because this is their home.

Mornings break with the sharp call of jackals across the veld. You will find the Duikers move to the woods and take shelter for the day. Nights settle in with the steady hooting of owls and the kind of silence you don’t get in the city, whilst the sky fill up with stars so bright you wonder how you could have missed it all these years.

In season, the dam comes alive — a full-on kakofonie of frogs, loud, wild, and untamed. And if you’re lucky, flamingos pass through, adding something unexpected to an already raw landscape.

Just land, water, wildlife — and the real outdoors.

Our story ...

A few years ago, our parents made a bold decision — to rebuild Broadlands, a nearly 40-year neglected family farm in Cedarmont, near Standerton. What started as a restoration project soon became something far more meaningful. We pitched in and renovated the buildings and brought in a Dutch Shepherd, Trigger, as a personal protection dog for two elderly parents living on the farm. He was more than security — he was companionship, presence, and peace of mind. But life changed.
After the passing of my mother, and facing reality, I could no longer look after my father on the farm, and he could no longer remain alone on the isolated farm. Almost overnight, we were faced with two realities:
What would become of Trigger… and how would we protect a farm that had become vulnerable after years of investment? During this time, we were supported by experienced trainers who helped stabilise the situation and we continued the development of Trigger as a detection and protection dog. The immediate security risk was reduced — but it became clear that Broadlands had far greater potential.
Then, in December 2025, everything shifted. Kian Kruger, a skilled and passionate dog trainer, needed a new base for his training operations. We offered him the opportunity to build something bigger — not just for him, but for the community. We constructed a professional 10-kennel facility and began the process of becoming PAPA licensed. That was the beginning of Broadlands Kennels & K9 Training.
